SDHD, in conjunction with SIMPCO, provides a free onsite assessment to businesses and organizations located in Woodbury County. This assessment is designed to help entities reduce barriers and improve accessibility so all individuals are able to access their buildings, services and programs. This assessment does not look at ADA compliance, but rather looks for ways to promote inclusion.

Following the completion of the on-site assessment, a summary report is provided and shared only with you. This includes best practices currently in place, findings, and recommendations for improvements. While there is no obligation in any way, participants are encouraged to use the recommendations when planning facility improvements, policy reviews, and other scheduled updates. Technical assistance will be provided should you pursue recommended changes.

Including and interacting with individuals with disabilities in the workforce can be confusing, especially for people who don’t have a personal connection to a person with a disability.

1. Responsive Practice Training includes two modules. Providing Health Care & Screenings to Individuals with Disabilities (1 credit) and Accessible & Adaptive Communication (0.5 credits). online and on-demand modules with free continuing education credits for physicians, nurses, and pharmacists.  Great for all health professionals. 
2. Disability Training for Practicing Health Care Professionals (27 min video)
3. Responsive Practice: Providing Health Care & Screenings to Individuals with Disabilities (Free, 1 hr, on-demand)
4. Disability Training for First Responders: Serving People with Disabilities. (Free, 1 hr). Provides information and best practices to ensure the safety of people with disabilities and EMS, Firefighters, Law Enforcement, and other Allied Health Professionals.  The training provides an overview of different disability types and accommodations that may be necessary, as well as an overview of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 as it relates to first responders. This training was supported by funding provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
