The VFC program provides vaccines for all children from birth through 18 years of age who meet one of the following criteria:

• Child has no health insurance coverage
• Child is Native American or Alaskan Native
• Child is enrolled in Medicaid, Medicaid HMO(s), or Medicaid as a secondary health coverage.  Individuals who have a primary health insurance company and Medicaid as secondary coverage are eligible for the VFC program and should be immunized using state supplied vaccine.
• Child is underinsured, the child has some type of health insurance with the benefit plan not covering immunizations.  

In addition, Siouxland District Health Department is unable to serve children enrolled in hawk-i.  This program covers immunization and these children should be taken to their physician for immunizations.

All immunizations for infants, children and adults will be by appointment only. VFC Clinics are on Mondays, Thursdays, and one Saturday per month. To schedule an appointment 712-279-6119.

Note: There is a $15.00 administration fee per child for all non-Iowa Medicaid children receiving vaccinations through our immunization clinics. 

Siouxland District Health Department (SDHD) is excited to announce that we have been approved to be a Vaccines for Adults (VFA) provider by Iowa Health and Human Services (IHHS).  SDHD will ask for a $15 per dose administration fee to help offset the costs associated with vaccine administration. This fee can be waived.

SDHD routinely carries the following vaccines:

                Tdap, Polio, MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Influenza, and Covid vaccines. 

Qualifications for VFA eligibility are set by the IHHS and are the individual:

1. Is without any insurance coverage,
2. Has an insurance plan that does NOT cover all vaccines (the individual is partially eligible to receive only the vaccines that their insurance plan does not cover) OR
3. Has Medicare Part B, but not Part D (eligible to receive vaccines that are not covered by Medicare part B

Criteria that would disqualify from VFA eligibility and receiving VFA vaccines are if an individual:

1. Has private insurance or Medicaid
2. Is covered by Iowa Health Link or Medicaid through a fee for service model OR
3. Has Medicaid part D.

Individuals ineligible for VFA vaccines can receive vaccines through pharmacies or their regular doctor’s office and their insurance or other coverage will help offset the cost of vaccines. 

 COVID-19 vaccination is recommended by the CDC for everyone ages 6 months and older in the United States for the prevention of COVID-19. There is currently no FDA-approved or FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccine for children younger than age 6 months.

•  The 2024–2025 formulation for all COVID-19 vaccines licensed or authorized in the United States (Moderna, Novavax, and Pfizer-BioNTech) has been updated to a monovalent vaccine based on the Omicron XBB.1.5 sublineage of SARS-CoV-2
• There is no recommendation of one COVID-19 vaccine over another COVID-19 vaccine when more then one is available.

Updated COVID-19 vaccines are available to most adults living in the U.S. at no cost through their private health insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid plans. Siouxland District Health Department will be providing COVID-19 through the VFA and VFC Program ONLY.  

Adults 18 years and older without health insurance and adults whose health insurance does not cover all COVID-19 vaccine costs can get updated COVID-19 vaccines at no cost through the Bridge Access Program.
