Creating “A Healthy Community for All” is the vision of the Siouxland District Health Department. This will be accomplished by “Creating a healthy community through health education, health protection and disease prevention.”

Organized in 1916, the Woodbury County Health Department was responsible for improving health services and providing community education throughout Woodbury County. In 1978 the County and City Boards of Health voted to dissolve their individual boards and created Iowa’s only district health board and health department, under the authority of Chapter 137 of the Code of Iowa.
As the Public Health agency for Woodbury County, Siouxland District Health continues to evolve to address the needs of the community. Services include public health nursing, nutrition, laboratory, health planning and environmental services in Woodbury County with expanded environmental programs in ten northwest Iowa counties. For more information on these services click on the SDHD services tab to the left or view the Siouxland District Health Department Agency Brochure. You can also learn more about SDHD by viewing our annual reports.
